The AEONS are a collection of forces and energies that pre-date any formalized religion. Ancient scrolls from the 1st and 2nd Century, found in the desert in Nag Hammadi, Egypt in the 1940's, describe these AEONS. The definition of Aeon in Greek is ‘life’, as in the flowing energy that passes through us, but this is far from a singular force. It is a multifaceted and diverse force that is the closest thing we can get to understanding the various dimensions of divine power. In Gnostic texts these are the different dimensions of the divine spark that is within us all. Archetypes of our spirituality and our soul.
Knowing the AEONS and communing with them was an important part of achieving enlightenment, knowing or understanding our inner authority. The AEONS act as a map of the soul and the spirit, which through detailed study and understanding, allow us to transcend both material (Hylic) and perceptual (Psychic) distractions to find ‘wholeness’ of being (Pneumatic). This journey was known as Gnosis or ‘knowledge’. It’s the origin of words like ‘agnostic’ and ‘ignorant’ - not knowing or without - knowing.
